In order to save the planet, our country needs to increase its forest cover. In our fight
against global warming and to save mankind and our future generations, government,
industry, educational institutions, voluntary organizations, influential individuals, citizens,
and our youth force need to play their part. Trees provide oxygen, help in carbon
sequestration, provide the ecosystem for a rich biodiversity of living creatures, increase the
productivity of the soil and ensure adequate rainfall. Hence this becomes a crucial cause for
all of us to pursue. Since 1974 Yuvak Biradari has been undertaking tree plantation work in
different pockets in India and spreading what we call ‘vruksha sneha sanskaar’.
Conservation of water and trees need to become a dharma for all alike. Biradari appeals
that individuals and families must plant and adopt trees and directly or indirectly promote
the movement of Vanrai / Smruti Vann. Birthdays, death anniversaries, wedding
anniversaries, festival days and other occasions may be sought to celebrate the green and
forest movement and thus repay a miniscule portion of what we owe to the planet.
In order to advocate this ‘Save the Earth’ movement, over the years Biradari has organised
many youth camps, green livelihood workshops, cyclothons, padayatra/long marches.
Biradari has also produced a dance-drama called ‘Sadi ki Pukar’ based on the theme of
environment conservation (saving water, clean air, energy, trees and forests) to promote
this cause. Art, street plays and other mediums were adopted to raise awareness in colleges
and other organisations.
Yuvak Biradari endeavours to make student-youth as active ‘Vruksha Snehi’. For us Vruksha
Snehi are youngsters who not only plants but undertake shramdaan to nurture native trees.
We also encourage youth to nurture minimum 25 trees and demonstrate leadership by
mobilizing and engaging youth and communities to nurture trees and they are at times
awarded with a scholarship as a token of encouragement.
